IS IT BETTER TO BE NOBLE OR WISE?
Is it better to be noble or wise? I think it depends on your individual personalities and what situation you are in. But to me, I think to be wise is better because in reality, I would show knowledge and good judgment. If I’ in a class, I would show my knowledge to the teacher. If I’ in an employment situation, I would show my ideas and knowledge to the boss. But to other people, they think noble is better because they want to be loyal or they want to show very high character and great ideals.
For example, in Juan A. A. Sedillo’ "Gentleman of Rio En Medio", Don Anselmo is a very noble man. First of all, he did not take more money for the land even though he could. He just accepted the price that he mentions at the first time. Because after he accepted more money, he would feel obligated towards to Americans or maybe he thinks that if he took more money, he would have more responsibilities for the land. Secondly, maybe he could as the most respected man of the village maybe because he was a noble man. Thirdly, he thinks everyone in the village was his relative and all the children in Rio En Medio are his nephews and nieces or grandchildren. For these reasons, he was a nobleman.
In my opinion, I think no matter you are a wise or noble man, we should respect each other’s individual views about being a wise or noble man. But in reality at this society, I think to be wise is better than noble as I agreed upon. Because there are many competitions in this society, you have to be a wise man than could be lead in competitions.
