In literature, Katherine Mansfield’ "Miss Brill" is clearly influenced by French impressionism. In the first sentence of this story, Miss Brill said, "Although it was so brilliantly fine-the blue sky powdered with gold and great spots of light like white wine splashed over the Jardins Publiques." This sentence describes the scenery outdoors, it could be an outdoor painting and this description has a lot of bright colors. In the middle of this story, there is another sentence, "Miss Brill’ eyes filled with tears and she looked smiling at all the other members of the company." This sentence describes a depiction of a passing feeling. There is another sentence that said "Behind the rotunda the slender trees with yellow leaves down drooping, and through them just a line of sea, and beyond the blue shy with gold-veined clouds." Similar to the first sentences suggests outdoor painting and has a lot of colors that characterizes the trees, shy and clouds. This sentence is also a depiction of a passing mood that describes the mood of being in nature. When Miss Brill sits in the park and leaves drops on others conversations. This could be an undefined form why she did it. Miss Brill have many imaginations of many people at the park and the scenery appears in front of her eyes. Her imagination did not mainly focus on one particular people or scenery, so this story has a lack of focus. There are many other sentences that could be characterized as a impressionism as outdoor painting, a lot of bright colors, undefined form, lack of focus and depiction of a passing mood or feeling.

I think that impressionism is a very special and literary art that expresses a person’s feeling. Maybe sometimes you have to use imagination or feeling to understand impressionist art. I think the story of "Miss Brill" has many similarities to impressionist art. Also, I think Miss Brill could be an impressionist, because she is a very imaginative, creative and emotional person.
