"COURAGE IS GRACE UNDER PRESSURE"

Ernest Hemingway’s statement, "Courage is grace under pressure." I think this statement is when a person has many pressures from other people or things, that person’s courage would automatically express itself out or that person’s courage is show in a pleasing manner when that person is under pressure. That is what this statement means to me.

I agree with this statement because I have read two works of literature where that the characters’ courage is grace under pressure. In Leonard Q. Ross’ "The Path Through The Cemetery", Ivan was mocked by others as a "pigeon" and "Ivan The Terrible-Ivan The Terribly Timid One". At the same time when Ivan is sickly protest fed the saloon people’ taunts, the lieutenant gave Ivan a challenge that said "but you dare not across the cemetery." Ivan faced many pressures from the saloon people and the lieutenant, and Ivan’ courage automatically expressed itself out and he said suddenly "Yes, lieutenant, I’ll cross the cemetery. That’s one example of "Courage is grace under pressure." Another example is in Liam O’ Flaherty’s "The Sniper". In the middle of the story, his enemy shot the sniper on his forearm. He nursed his wound and lay against the parapet. Morning was coming soon and the enemy on the opposite roof would cover his escape if the sun comes out and the sniper was shot. Under all of these pressures, the sniper showed his courage and thought of a plan to try to kill that enemy across the street. He risked his life for this plan. The sniper’s courage is grace under pressure that was given by the enemy. In the beginning of "The Sniper". The setting of the story makes the snipers courage grace under pressure. In the year 1921, A civil was followed the founding of the Irish Free States. A civil was between the Free States and Republicans. The sniper’s face was the face of a student, which I think he was under the age of 20. When a child is born under this kind of situation, I think he is under many pressures and shows his courage to fight for his side, the Republicans.

Those are the examples of "Courage grace under pressure" which I think they could support my opinion.
