"WHERE I WAS BORN AND WHERE AND HOW I HAVE LIVED IS UNIMPORTANT. IT IS WHAT I HAVE DONE WITH WHERE I HAVE BEEN THAT SHOULD BE OF INTEREST"
I choose Georgia O’ Keeffe’ critical lens "Where I was born and where and how I have lived is unimportant. It is what I have done with where I have been that should be of interest." I think this critical len means that the place where you born and places where a person have lived is not important, it is important what a person hone something and where the person have been should be interest. I disagree with this critical lens because I think the culture and the history of the place a person was born is important because it would influences a person’s decision of what to do and where to go in future. Also, I think the places where and how a person have lived is important because a person would get experiences from where he or she has lived, and it would also influences a person’s decision of what to do and where to go in future.
In the story "A Raisin in the Sun" by Lorraine Hansberry is an example of my disagreement. In this story, Walter Lee Younger was born between World War II and the present in which a period which the black people always been discriminated. Walter and his family in an apartment where there were families live that apartment and each family had to share the bathroom. Walter stays up late and wake up early to work as a limousine driver which he opens and closes car doors all day long, he drives a man around and he says "Yes, sir, no, sir; very good sir; shall I take the drive, sir?" Because of the place where he was born the history of his culture and the places where and how do Walter have lived and worked. In which these things are important to Walter in which it influences his thinking of what to do and where to go in future such as he imagines he worked in the office downtown, he wants a executive’s life, a plain black Chrysler and a Cadillac for his wife. Therefore, he always look for hopes and he took his mother’s insurance money and invested in a liquor store with his friends and it leads to an situational irony which Walter’s friend took away his money away his money and ran away. In another story "Gentleman of Rio En Medio" by Juan A.A Sedillo which is another example of disagreement. In the story, Don Anselmo lived in a small village in the 1910’s New Mexico, he was a very noble man, his ethnic or cultural background and history was Spanish. Because of the place he has lived, his cultural background and history of his culture influences his personality and thoughts. Therefore, Don Anselmo claimed that the tree was not his to sell. These two examples shows the culture and the history of the place person was born is important, also, the places where and how a person have lived is also important because these things would influences a person’s decision of what to do and where to go in future.
I disagreed about this critical lens because I think the culture and the history of the place a person was born is important. Also, I think the place where and how person has lived is also important because it would be influences a person’s decision of what to do and where to go in future. Therefore, I made a disagreement on this critical lens.
